As heavy rains batter some part of the UAE and more unstable weather to hit Abu Dhabi, Dubai tonight, UAE authorities urged motorists to exercise caution and warned that stricter penalties will apply for traffic violations that endanger lives during adverse weather conditions.
The UAE's Ministry of Interior has highlighted strict penalties under Ministerial Resolution No 178 of 2017 concerning traffic control rules and procedures, targeting unsafe behaviour during rainy weather and flooding events.
Authorities have warned residents against gathering near valleys, floodplains, and dams during rainy conditions. Violators face a fine of Dh1,000 and 6 black points for such behaviour. Entering flowing valleys, regardless of the perceived danger, carries harsher penalties — a fine of Dh2,000, 23 black points, and a 60-day vehicle impoundment.

Additional violations include obstructing authorities during emergencies, such as traffic management, ambulance services, or rescue operations during rainfall and valley flooding. Offenders can face a fine of Dh1,000, 4 black points, and a 60-day vehicle impoundment.
These measures aim to protect public during adverse weather conditions and reduce the risk of accidents and loss of life. Authorities have urged residents to adhere strictly to all safety guidelines, avoid risky areas, and cooperate fully with emergency services during floods and storms.

Driving dangerously: Dh2,000 fine, 23 black points and 60-day confiscation
Driving with hazard lights on: Dh500 fine, four black points

Driving in the fog despite official instructions not to: Dh500 fine, 4 black points
Failure to follow instructions issued by a policeman: Dh400 fine, four black points
Fleeing when a policeman asks a motorist to stop: Dh800 fine, 12 black points
