Maruti Celerio 2025 Global NCAP: 3-Star Adult Safety but Structural Concerns Remain

Maruti Suzuki is having a “two-tale” week in the safety department. On December 22, 2025, Global NCAP dropped the crash test results for the Celerio, and while the 3-star rating is an upgrade, it’s far from a perfect score.
The thing is, Maruti is finally making six airbags standard, which is the only reason the Celerio climbed out of the 0-star basement. But here’s the kicker: airbags can’t fix a “crunchy” frame. The bodyshell and footwell were both rated as unstable. Or nothing. Let’s be real, you can have all the cushions in the world, but if the box collapses, it’s still bad news. Those too.

The Breakdown: 2025 Celerio Crash Results
| Category | Score | Star Rating |
| Adult Occupant | 18.04 / 34 | ⭐⭐⭐ |
| Child Occupant | 18.57 / 49 | ⭐⭐ |
The Good:
-
Head & Neck: Protection for the driver was “adequate” and “good” for the passenger.
-
Standard Safety: Six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC), and 3-point seatbelts are now baked into the price.
The Not-So-Good:
-
Chest Protection: Rated as “weak” for the driver. That’s a red flag.
-
Child Safety: The 2-star rating is disappointing. During the crash, the 3-year-old and 18-month-old dummies both suffered “head exposure.” The child restraint systems just didn’t hold up under pressure.

-
Structural Integrity: The structure reached its limit. It wouldn’t be able to withstand any more load.
The Wider Picture: New vs. Legacy
The drama here is the gap between Maruti’s models.
-
The Heroes: The new Dzire and Victoris (Maruti’s latest compact SUV) both smashed the tests with 5-star ratings. They prove Maruti can build safe cars.
-
The Disappointment: The Ciaz was also tested and walked away with a measly 1-star rating. It lacks side head protection and still uses unstable footwells.
It’s an ongoing situation where Maruti is essentially a brand in transition. They are launching 5-star “safe cars” while still trying to patch up their “legacy” hatchbacks. It’s better than before, but the Celerio is still more of a city runabout than a highway warrior.
