Mother of 4 sons killed in Abu Dhabi crash on long road to recovery: Family
A mother who lost her four sons in a car accident on January 3 in Abu Dhabi is slowly recovering, a family member said. R.R, who was in the car with her husband, daughter, four sons and a maid at the time, is now home from the hospital and trying to cope with the tragic loss.
"For the first few days, she couldn’t cry, which was very concerning for all of us,” the relative said. “On Monday, when I went to visit her, a cousin's son was there too. He looked similar to one of her sons. She hugged him and cried a lot. I think it helped her to finally be able to cry."
The relative said that she and R.R. then went into a room where the mother cried and talked for a long time. “She had been trying to stay strong for her husband and her family,” she said. “I encouraged her to share her feelings and it was a relief for her. I told her that many mothers around the world had cried for her and with her. It is just the beginning of the healing process. It will be a long road for her to come to terms with what has happened and go on with life."

On January 3, the car they were traveling in crashed, and three boys, aged 14 to 5, along with the maid, died at the scene. A fourth son died the next day in the hospital. The boys’ funeral was held last week and attended by hundreds.
The family had been returning from a trip to Liwa, which the boys’ father said told Khaleej Times was a last-minute plan. R.R learned about her sons’ deaths on the day of the funeral and was able to see them one last time. The father, who was also hospitalised, asked to be discharged and attended the funeral in a wheelchair.
Telling her daughter
R.R was seriously injured in the accident and underwent several surgeries. She was discharged from the hospital on Wednesday. Until then, her 10-year-old daughter was unaware of the fact that all her siblings had died. She had been told that they were still in hospital.
"After she was discharged, R.R asked her family to tell her daughter that her brothers had died," the relative said. "The girl’s uncle took her out and told her the truth. Later, the mother, father, and daughter went to the grave to see where the boys were buried. They said the girl cried a lot."
Stable condition
According to the relative, the mother’s physical health is now stable. "She is able to walk," she said. "She has a cast on her hand. The swelling on her face and the redness in her eyes, which were very noticeable after the accident, have gone down a lot."
The family is now staying at a relative’s house and plans to travel to India soon. "I advised her to change her SIM card because people keep calling and messaging her," she said. "The family needs privacy and space to grieve. None of us visit them without checking first. I hope people will pray for them and respect their need for privacy."
