Pakistanis in UAE, GCC allowed to import used cars under new rules

Pakistan has allowed its citizens in the UAE, GCC, and other countries to import used cars up to three years old under two schemes.

A statement issued by the Pakistan government said that the Federal Cabinet has approved the Economic Coordination Committee's decision, taken on December 9, 2025, to allow the import of used vehicles up to 3 years old under the Transfer of Residence and Gift Schemes, according to a report by Business Recorder.

The statement said the imported vehicle cannot be transferred or sold for one year. As reported earlier by Khaleej Times, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) clarified that only overseas Pakistanis in the UAE and other countries are eligible to import cars under the gift or transfer of residence schemes.

However, the Personal Baggage scheme was excluded from the permissible category. Over 1.7 million Pakistani citizens live in the UAE, and more than 5.5 million across the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. Globally, the number exceeds 9 million.

The Pakistani diaspora in the UAE and other countries has asked the government to allow them to import cars under the three categories.

Many Pakistani families returning home after years abroad want to take their expensive goods and cars with them. Some officials argue this facility is misused and should be scrapped.
