Populism power and media dominate discourse at Mediacon 2026
At the 10th MediaCon conference at St Joseph’s University, Bengaluru, filmmaker Dibakar Banerjee urged students to prepare intellectually for a world shaped by populism and authoritarianism. Centered on “Populism and Media,” the event examined how digital platforms, legacy media and alternative voices shape political discourse in polarized societies. Vice-chancellor Fr Victor Lobo stressed ethical media use, warning that media power can divide or heal public life amid growing global polarization and democratic pressures worldwide today.
