RAK govt responds to over 200 calls as residents deal with effects of torrential rains
Ras Al Khaimah residents on Thursday morning woke up to the effects of torrential rains, finding fallen trees and damaged poles around their homes. Since the early hours of the morning, the field teams of Ras Al Khaimah’s Public Service Department were out and about, fixing damages and ensuring that the public remained safe, a spokesperson told Khaleej Times.The department had a dedicated contact number to receive public reports about weather-related incidents. Specialised teams responded to the reports immediately to address the issues. These machines helped the department's rapid response and reduced emergency response times. A total of 217 public reports have been received and dealt with so far.The Rain Emergency Committee continued to implement its operational plans in coordination with all relevant entities. Priority was given to the most affected areas and locations experiencing significant water accumulation.Focused efforts on draining waterA lot of the department’s efforts were focused on operating and maintaining stormwater drainage networks, cleaning outlets and drainage channels, monitoring pump efficiency, and addressing water accumulation in vital locations. Immediate interventions were also put in place to reduce the impact of heavy rainfall on roads and residential areas. In addition, specialised teams continued to work to address sand and mountain collapses and to secure affected roads, ensuring the safety of road users and smooth traffic flow.RAK Police conduct field inspectionsRas Al Khaimah Police have also intensified field operations and coordination with government partners to ensure public safety amid the ongoing adverse weather conditions, Brigadier Ahmed Al Sum Al Naqbi, Director General of Central Operations at Ras Al Khaimah Police, told Khaleej Times.Brig Al Naqbi said the police leadership has strengthened joint efforts with relevant authorities, including the Department of Public Services, Civil Defence, the Emergency and Crisis Management teams, the National Guard, and other government entities, to respond effectively to the current situation.Senior police officials and central operations officers conducted field inspections on Thursday to assess the situation on the ground, review the readiness of deployed teams, and monitor ongoing efforts during the rainfall. The inspections also covered high-risk areas, including known water accumulation points, dams, and other locations prone to flooding.Coordination is also underway with the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure and the Department of Public Services to expedite the drainage of accumulated rainwater and reduce potential hazards, he added.To enhance road safety, Ras Al Khaimah Police have increased traffic patrols across the southern, central, and northern regions of the emirate.
