UAE calls for more international efforts to achieve peace, stability in Yemen
The UAE has called on the international community to redouble its efforts to achieve peace, security, and stability in Yemen and the region, Ambassador Mohamed Abushahab, the country's Permanent Representative to the UN, said on Thursday."At this critical juncture for Yemen, the Security Council must not resign itself to an approach of managing, rather than resolving, this conflict," he added during a Security Council meeting on Yemen.Abushahab stressed in his speech on the fact that the UAE joined the Saudi-led Arab Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen in 2015 at the official request of the Yemeni government.Stay up to date with the latest news. The UAE's goals were clear: to protect Yemen and its people from Houthi aggression, to combat terrorism, and, in doing so, to promote the security, stability, and sovereignty of Yemen — as well as regional and international peace and security. Besides the military sacrifices and the security threats, the UAE has exerted many efforts to address the humanitarian crisis in Yemen. It provided more than $8 billion in humanitarian and development assistance, supporting the immediate needs of the Yemeni people. Additionally, the UAE also provided support to enable the legitimate Government of Yemen to deliver basic services.Withdrawal from YemenOn 30 December, the UAE announced the conclusion of all remaining counter-terrorism units in Yemen.
